Maia Ruth Lee revisits her steel Glyph sculptures first introduced in the 2019 Whitney Biennial with new additions for her second solo exhibition with Tina Kim Gallery, Double Vision. This series is rooted in the distinct architectural and visual language of New York City, where Lee lived for over a decade. The glyphs are salvaged architectural fragments from the city: fences, doors, gates, and windows are cast and welded into a new language. 

By recomposing remnants, the glyphs become archives of labor and material memory. Fragments gather again and enter new relations. Lee’s assemblages occupy the space between word and sculpture, an open-ended code that remains vaguely familiar, yet stubbornly illegible.
