Pérez Córdova is interested in tracing relations between discourse and matter, where liquids are a metaphor for the way in which things acquire a certain shape. In A Speech of 5200 words, (2022), the artist uses a liquid material, in this case artificial saliva, as a metaphor for the production of speech.

Initially inspired by the average length of political speeches, the work stands as a material agent with the ability to represent a given situation. The work references a daily routine familiar to Mexico, where the president of the country gives a televised speech every morning. It's form, which imitates the function of a water clock, evokes the Roman tradition of displaying water clocks in public squares, where speeches were often made as well. The work is suggestive of the state of democracy today, where speech and performance are intertwined with politics.
