Gimhongsok: Lots of People: Busan Museum of Art
Past exhibition
Overview
"Lots of People," on view at the Busan Museum of Art, showcases 12 new works by artist Gimhongsok (b. 1964), along with a participatory element where children are invited to create their own art using styrofoam in a working space located inside the exhibition hall. These pieces by children will then be displayed in a separate area, providing an opportunity to break free from the confines of a quiet and seemingly rigid institutional art museum and enable audiences to explore new sensibilities and meanings in the artworks.
Gimhongsok invites us to reconsider the concept of art through the use of lightweight and fragile styrofoam, a material commonly used as an auxiliary, filler material. By shifting and rejecting the conventional standards of art that have been presented to us, he encourages us to understand and question art from a fresh perspective.
