Drawing from the poetics of everyday life and speculative narrative, Yin connects this physical gleaning to the experiences of those whose identities have been shaped by colonial intervention and displacement. The work depicts Yin’s friend, Ad, a New York-based farmer who cultivates cheorwon odae, a Korean rice variety grown near the demilitarized zone (DMZ) and regarded as a poignant symbol of reunification. With this portrait, Yin visualizes an act of care and cultural persistence, as Ad gleans ancestral knowledge from elders to nurture their heritage on foreign soil, blending the past and present in a luminous visualization of autonomy and memory.
