Overview
KANG SEOK HO: THREE MINUTE DELIGHT, Seoul Museum of Art

Held at the Seoul Museum of Art, “Three Minute Delight” is the first retrospective of Kang Seok Ho (1971-2021). This exhibition is an homage to Kang’s remarkable creativity that traversed between two and three dimensionality, art and everyday life, and finally, between hobby and work. This exhibition is a rare opportunity to observe the poetics present in his work as well as in his life, through a curation of his paintings alongside his writings, his furniture designs, and pieces from his own collection and archive. “Three Minute Delight” is the title of his essay that captures a one-day journey. For him, the span of “3 minutes” represents the amount of time that enabled him to distance himself from the banality of everyday existence. The time he spent outside his studio walking and collecting something was important to keep his freedom and balance inside the studio. As Kang’s everyday life and art are thought of as inseparable, this exhibition is designed to have a layout in which visitors can view his works by series, writings, and furniture collection as if flowing and walking without constraint. The subtitles of each section refer to keywords such as everyday life, formativeness, utopia, and walk which were important to Kang. More than a showcase of his oeuvre, this retrospective is a starting point for research on the artist.
