Untitled (framed flat skin pieces from Open Wound) is composed of the industrial mesh fabric, typically used in construction sites, that formed the central sculptures of Mire Lee’s acclaimed Hyundai Commission at Tate Modern’s Turbine Hall in 2024. Lee has reworked the sculptures, transforming them into a new series of flat, wall-based works encased in steel frames. With this work, Lee connected the fragility of the human body to that of industrial structures. This work alludes to ideas of birth, decay, and regeneration. Lee examines the tension between organic vulnerability within the enduring permeance of industrialized systems.
