Palace (c. 1980s) is a sculpture made of Indian granite by Minoru Niizuma. Drawing upon Japanese traditions, Niizuma integrated contrasting elements of smooth and raw material by intuitively responding to the natural texture of the stone—the two pieces of granite are joined together seamlessly, revealing a solid form from the back and two perpendicular forms from the front. The artist hand polished every surface of his sculptures, following eight successive steps to achieve a pristine, sensuous texture. Palace was exhibited in a solo exhibition of Niizuma's work at Park Ryu Sook Art Gallery in Seoul, Korea in 1992.Palace (c. 1980s) is a sculpture made of Indian granite by Minoru Niizuma.
