Rove and Round is a series that combines modules from several of the artist’s other works — such as the Face series, made of netted laundry bags sewn and wrapped with yarn, and the slender, streamlined metal structure of the lower portion of the Grandmother Tower series — presenting them in a new form. Evocative of stretched and porous skin tissue, a sagging stomach, and the ever-narrower steps of a weakening gait, these works might call to mind an enfeebled human being. From another angle, however, the light glinting off the metal surface and rounded stomach may remind us of a person ready and eager to set out on a roving journey of their own. By using structures that speak to the precarity of human existence and rounded forms that have no identifiable beginning or end, the artist seems to suggest that roving does not necessarily entail traveling great lengths, but, instead, circling in place ad inifinitum.
