Lee Ufan, a prominent leader of the Mono-ha and Dansaekhwa movements in Asia, is a globally celebrated artist known for his artwork and writing that examines gesture, action, and the relationships between art objects, viewers, and the spaces they inhabit. From Point is one of Lee’s most iconic series, in which he systematically daubs paint from left to right until there is no paint left on the brush. The gradual fading of the paint evokes ink brushwork, the medium for calligraphy, poetry, and painting in East Asian tradition in which Lee was tutored as a child. In this historical and cultural context, point and line are imbued with cosmic meaning - the one leading to all, and the all reducible to one.
