단색화 운동의 중요한 구성원 중 한 명인 이우환(b. 1936)의 회화와 조각은 명상, 반복, 시간성과 같은 주제를 탐구한다. 이우환은 미술사, 비평, 시, 철학 등과 관련한 여러 저작을 출판한 이론가이기도 하다. 작가의 작업은 국립현대미술관, 도쿄국립근대미술관(The National Museum of Modern Art, Tokyo), 런던 테이트 모던(Tete Modern), 뉴욕현대미술관(Museum of Modern Art, New York), 뉴욕 구겐하임미술관(Solomon R. Guggenheim Museum) 등 세계 주요 미술 기관에 소장되어 있다. 안도 다다오(Tadao Ando)가 설계한 이우환미술관(Lee Ufan Museum)은 2010년 일본 나오시마에서 개관했다.
