Kibong Rhee achieves a perfect sense of the ephemeral in his hazy, dreamlike paintings, which are made using a unique manipulation of sheer fabric, space, and delicately applied pigment to create convincing optical depth. His vignettes appear suspended in a liminal space, both materializing and disappearing. Mist plays a crucial role in these paintings, as Rhee believes that water, in its variety of forms, embodies the fleetingness of life.
