Tina Kim Gallery is pleased to participate in Frieze New York, on view at The Shed, 545 W 30th St, New York, from Wednesday, May 18 to Sunday, May 22. We hope you have a chance to visit us at Booth A9.
Spanning the breadth of our roster, from Dansaekhwa icons to luminous contemporary figures, Tina Kim Gallery is pleased to present our booth for Frieze NY, marking the debut of the Pacita Abad Art Estate with the gallery. At Frieze NY, Abad will present Weeping Woman (1985), a standout work from her Masks series of trapunto paintings, a form of quilted painting the artist originated by stitching and stuffing her painted canvases instead of stretching them over a frame.
Accumulating materials, techniques, and subjects from her vast travels, oftentimes within the same composition, Pacita Abad (1946-2004) was uniquely positioned to explore modernity’s uneven development with the greatest care, as a figure born outside of the metropole. Her oeuvre featured an immense array of subject matter, from tribal masks and social realist tableaus to lush and intricately rendered underwater scenes and abstractions.
In advance of the fair, we invite you to explore our Frieze Viewing Room presentation which features work by Pacita Abad, Ghada Amer, Davide Balliano, Tania Pérez Córdova, Gimhongsok, Suki Seokyeong Kang, Minouk Lim, Wook-Kyung Choi, Kim Yong-Ik, Kwon Young-Woo, John Pai, and Park Seo-Bo, among others.
