Liverpool Biennial 2025 featuring Jennifer Tee: Liverpool, UK
Jennifer Tee is featured in the 2025 Liverpool Biennial, titled ‘BEDROCK,’ in Liverpool, UK. The biennial's theme explores the literal and metaphorical bedrock of Liverpool, drawing inspiration from the region's sandstone and its underlying social foundations and beliefs.
On display in the Walker Art Gallery are piezographic prints from Tee’s Tampan Tulips series, a decade-long project examining transitions, migration, and constant change through collages of tulip petals. These intricate collages echo the motifs found on traditional Indonesian tampan cloths, used in ceremonies marking life transitions like birth, death, and marriage. The use of petals acknowledges the journey of tulips from their native Asian mountains to Northern European gardens, mirroring the artist's family's immigration from Indonesia to the Netherlands after World War II. The original collages are meticulously documented in piezographic prints, preserving their ephemeral details for the future.
