Gimhongsok's Surrender - Brown belongs to his Incomplete Order Development series, a group of humanoid cement sculptures, each approximately a meter tall, that appear to stand with arms raised or flipped into a handstand. Through whimsy, humor, and candor, the series strives to question the value hierarchies that are implicitly assigned by cultural consensus to people and art objects based on superficial qualities like size and stature. Gimhongsok implicitly questions why a material like styrofoam is considered less beautiful than a material like marble, and creates objects that seek joy from that which is not immortal, happy, or sacred.
